Digestive System
A well functioning digestive system has a ripple effect on the balance of the body’s health.
Digestion is the process of changing food had been eaten into the separated forms of useful nutrients for the body sustainment and fecal matter out of the body. This process takes 10 to 24 hours of time after a meal is eaten then the food travels along the length of the ailmentary canal or “ Digestive Track”. Along this, also need some other functions of accessory organs such as the liver, gallbladder,creas and other. These two organs do release the stored bile into the small intestine to emulsify fats then the aid digestion is pancreatic juice coming from the pancreas.
Emotion and Digestion:
In 1822, Doctor William Beaumont started his long experiments of the relationship between emotion and digestion. The discovery has become the basic facts of gastric physiology taught today.
The fact is that the sympathetic nervous system can cause the digestive activity inhabitation. This will affect all organs of the area, including the colon.
The large intestine represents the terminal phase in digestion. Here, large amounts of water and salts are reabsorbed back into the blood, leaving only the familiar fecal matter. Unlike the fast-moving Chyme in the small intestine, this fecal matter moves slowly and contains much less nutrients and water. Chyme enter the large intestine via the sphincter, ileocecal valve, and continues into the cecum. From the cecum, fecal matter travels upward into the ascending colon, across the transverse colon, and down into the descending colon. The sigmoid colon (having a 'S' shape) is the last major portion of the large intestine. Here, this usually dry fecal matter terminates in the rectum to anal canal to anus pathway and then exits the body.
Learn of Digestive System
1. The start of the process : The Mouth
The biting and chewing; mechanical actions of breaking down food into small pieces which are easier for digestion. Also salivary enzymes produced from the saliveri glands in the mouth begin to digest carbohydrates.
2. The pathway to the stomach :The Esophagus
After chewed food swallowed down along the tube from mouth to the stomach, this tube is called “The Esophagus”. Esophagus starts the rhythmical wave-like movements to push food from throat down to our stomach automatically. The rhythmical wave-like movement of the body organs is called : “ Peristalsis” .
3. The Stomach
The large sack-like organ which creates 2-3 liters of strong gastric liquid in order to digest food into a thick liquidity called : “Chyme”. Then chyme is in a ready stage to pass further on through the small intestine by peristalsis.
4. The Small Intestine
Our small intestine is about 6-7 meters long. During 3 to 6 hours of chyme (digested food)’s transit time, the small intestine will start a duty of absorbing about 90% of nutrients from chyme into the bloodstream. Within this long timed process, there are also bile (produced from the liver and stored in the gallbladder), pancreatic enzymes (produced from pancreas), and other digestive enzymes that helps in breaking down chyme in the small intestine.
The lining of the small intestine contains many folds and many microscopic finger-like projections called “ Villi”. The nutrients from chyme can be passed through the cell membranes of the villi into bloodstream and lymph. So these nutrients are carried to the cells for the body usage of energy and growth.
5. The Large Intestine
The large intestine is a muscular tube about 1.5 meters long and in another called “colon or bowel”. Most of the water that was mixed in food (chyme) will be absorbed through the walls of large intestine but the leftover will be turned into solids. These solids are the waste matters which pass from the body within 3-12 hours by peristalsis. Muscles on the outer walls of the colon create peristalsis to move along the solid matters ;
- Food (chyme) enters into the large intestine via the sphincter, ileocecal valve and starts to travel from the first part of the large intestine, the cecum (the appendix is connected to the cecum) upward in the ascending colon, further passes across the abdomen in the transverse colon then go back down the other side in the descending colon. Next, the last major part is the sigmoid colon (s-shaped colon) and the solid fecal is stored in the rectum until it is terminated and excreted out of the body via the anus. The anus is lined with tender tissue (like inside cheek) which contains glands that secrete lubrication for allowing the smooth passage of the solid fecal.
- The primarily function of the colon is to process and store waste materials for elimination. In the same time, it absorbs water, electrolytes and some vitamins back through the walls into the cells for the body usage.
We don’t know that in every time of a bowel movement, 30 % of the solid matter is bacteria. In the large intestine is colonized by bacteria which play important roles of helping of digestion process such as : Lactobacillus acidophilus. These bacteria are very useful to human, they eat the cellulose we can’t digest, methane gas and hydrogen sulphide (smelly gas) and synthesize vitamin B and K.
In case of the irregular or hampered bowel movements, this causes the dehydration and stagnation. The elimination of the waste matters is
incomplete so the increasing of the accumulated toxins and harmful bacteria can weaken the other health functions.
Signs of The Inefficient Elimination and a Toxic Colon
The inefficiency and toxicity of colon is the underlying cause of many reported problems ;
- Constipation and Diarrhea
- Gas and bloating
- Haemorrhoids
- Weakened immunityintestinal
- Toxaemia and parasite infestations
- Indigestion
- Allergies & infections
- Lower Backache and Abdominal pain
- Headaches or Migraines
- Menstrual problems
- Mood Swings
- Depression
- Fatigue
- Bad Breath
- Skin problems
- Aching joints or muscles
In today modern life style, Most of people are too busy of working and daily environment matters so these make them forget to take care of their own health. The inhaled air pollution especially carbonmonocxide and other toxins and also the refined, processed and low fiber food as well as the less exercises : these are the causes improper of our digestion and eliminatory organ. Moreover, The unenough rest and increasing stress and tension contribute to the irregular digestive and bowelmovement problems then many diseases can easily to follow.In order to avoid of those coming difficulties and we are not loosing all hopes by following suggestions.(see Food Pyramid)
Food Pyramid
Starting from the top of the food pyramid ;
1. Red meat and butter (left) also white bread, potatoes, pasta and sweets
(right) are used sparingly so they are at the top of pyramid.
2. 1-2 servings of dairy or calcium supplements
3. 0-2 servings of fish, poultry and eggs
4. 1-3 servings of nuts and legumes
5. Vegetables can be consumed in abundance but 2-3 servingsof fruits.
6. Whole grain foods and also plant oils (olive, canola, soy, corn, sunflower,
peanut and other vegetable oil) are allowed for most meal.
7. The daily enough exercises and weight control are at the bottom of the pyramid.
The mulitiple of vitamins and alcohol are out of the pyramid.These are on consideration of less necessity as explain ;
If we consume new daily diet pattern as the pyramid suggestion,we can select and obtain more of nutrients from the natural healthy meals.So the multiple vitamins are less necessary to us. In the case of alcohol, many people intake alcohol for the purpose of easy sleep but this becomes meaningless for those of enough daily exercises.
The ways of practice are important to improve our routine pattern of meals. Exercises are very necessary to life but also the enough rest can contribute to the body functions of repairing system. Start the new practice today and get the stronger and more efficient health so the dependency of medicines is fading far away from us.
